Nature Artist ~ Photographer ~ Visual Writer
Over the past six months, I’ve been reflecting deeply on how AI is transforming the creative world and my role in it. The rise of AI art has been explosive, leaving little time to come to terms with its impact. No sooner had I transitioned my website from photography to art, I found myself changing direction again. It’s been emotionally draining, and I’ll admit, I’m struggling to find the motivation to revamp my website so soon. Please bear with me while I rearrange everything; things may look a bit muddled for now.
As an emerging artist, it has become clear that being an artist is getting harder. AI can now create art quickly, without having to learn the hands-on skills or techniques that can take an artist many years to develop. It’s strange watching something you’ve worked hard to develop and had to wait so long to do professionally, suddenly become so easily replaced.
It's a little deflating, but as I'm not one to be defeated, I've chosen instead to see this shift as an invitation to think about what is most important to me in life. Nature has always been a big part of who I am at my core. I've always fought for it, and I see this opportunity to get more involved and spread the word to try and help nature's recovery in the UK. I’m now focusing my energy on restoring the acre of land I care for, a place I’ve named Frowning Sparrow Woods. This journey is being shared through Today I’m a Wolf, a diary of my efforts in creating an area that nurtures nature so it can be self-sustainable. Alongside this, I’m starting a couple of exciting projects that I'll be sharing more on later.
This new direction feels honest and grounded and full of potential. I’m not disappointed that AI has played a part in pushing me this way; if anything, I feel quietly grateful. It’s helped me see more clearly where I want to grow, and what kind of legacy I want to leave.
But it’s not the end of art for me, this new direction still weaves in art and photography, only now it’s rooted in something more meaningful.
Is my new path AI-proof? Probably not.
I fully expect a hyperrealistic AI influencer to pop up any day now, bottle-feeding a pixelated hedgehog and racking up millions of views.
Whether the real thing still matters....that’s entirely up to you. I can’t control how you choose to see the world, or the direction you want to take it.
For now, thank you for walking with me as the path unfolds.
